Beyond the Desk and Level the Playing Field Scholarships

Try something new! Develop your talents! Learn new skills!

The Shaker Schools Foundation provides opportunity scholarships to assist students in exploring educational and athletic opportunities outside of school. This support is designed to introduce students to activities that they might not otherwise explore and more importantly, to help build community between and among Shaker students.

Students can apply up to three times per year, but prior grants received may impact the grant award. It is unlikely that a grant will exceed $350.

Please complete the Opportunity Assistance application to apply for a “Beyond the Desk” scholarship (arts and academics) or a “Level the Playing Field” scholarship (athletics).

Requirements:

For students in grades 1-12 currently enrolled in the Shaker Heights School District
Fill out one application per student. Applications must be filled out by the student’s parent or legal guardian. Students are asked to fill out the student statement.
Please limit requests to a maximum of one activity per grant period (late August-December, January-early June, and summer). Funds are limited.
Apply at least 3 weeks before the activity begins.

Beyond the Desk Enrichment Scholarships

Scholarship support for students seeking financial assistance to participate in classes, camps, and visual or performing arts groups that are not sports-related and are outside of the District.

Level the Playing Field Youth Sports Scholarships

Scholarship support for students seeking financial assistance to participate in youth team sports and other athletic activities outside of the District.

My child had the opportunity to build some of the Lego ideas in his Lego book and worked in a group to build a robot on his first day at the camp. This wouldn’t have been possible without the financial support from the Shaker Schools Foundation. We are so grateful for the exposure he got to have!

I want to say how thankful and grateful I am that my child was awarded this scholarship. It gave me peace of mind knowing that I didn’t have to worry as much about how I was going to pay for her to participate in lacrosse. Organizations like the Shaker Schools Foundation make a real difference by providing financial support to families who need a little extra help. Because of this, she has the opportunity to continue playing the sport she loves, and for that, I am sincerely grateful.
