The camaraderie, familial bond, mutual care and respect that the players, coaches, and families shared this past season was truly special, and the Myrtle Beach Trip, which would not have been possible without the Shaker Schools Foundation, fostered these connections in meaningful, intangible, lasting ways.

The Shaker Schools Foundation and our Athletic Department, supported the Shaker Heights Varsity Softball’s first ever Spring Break training trip to the Ripken training facility in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina this past Spring. The softball team competed at a high level against teams from various states in top-notch facilities, and create meaningful bonds through shared personal and athletic experiences.
SHHS Softball Coach Victoria Rosen explained the benefits of the training facilities and competition in Myrtle Beach to players. The Foundation also supported the team in enriching personal experiences as well. Besides supporting the transportation costs of the team the SHHS Varsity Team was able to watch a college softball game at Coastal Carolina, enjoy a fabulous hibachi dinner, and allow for bonding experiences simply enjoying the beautiful locale, which the players truly enjoyed.
The Spring Break Training Trip set the tone and foundation for the Softball Team’s success during the season. With an overall record of 13-8, three players earning All-GCC, two earning All-GCC Honorable Mention, three players earning All-NE Ohio Honorable Mention, and two players competing on the All NE Ohio Underclass Team this summer, the team saw great success on the field. However, the culture of the program on and off the field is what their coaches are most proud of. The camaraderie, familial bond, mutual care and respect that the players, coaches, and families shared this past season was truly special.
The team mantra this season was “TogetherEveryoneAchievesMore,” and teaming up with the Shaker Schools Foundation allowed our team, staff, and players to achieve more and create memories that will last a lifetime.

My favorite non-game memory is playing whiffle ball and volleyball on the beach with coach and the team.
