Help Open Doors to Opportunities

The German cultural experience for Shaker Heights Middle School students transformed classroom learning into an engaging, real-world opportunity.

Students were welcomed into a beautifully prepared space where they enjoyed a buffet lunch and time to connect with peers in a festive and inviting atmosphere.

Following lunch, students experienced a live performance by the STV Bavaria dance group. Performers explained their traditional costumes and the cultural significance of the Schuhplattler dance, helping students deepen their understanding of German heritage and folk traditions. 

A highlight of the experience was the student participation portion, where students were invited onto the dance floor to learn alongside the performers. Their enthusiasm created a meaningful moment of cultural exchange and engagement.

This experience also helped strengthen our students’ connection to Shaker’s long-standing global exchange traditions, including the Shaker–Goslar exchange, which is the oldest partnership between a German and American school, connecting students across continents since 1978! 

Through experiences like this, the Shaker Schools Foundation continues to expand access to meaningful enrichment opportunities that foster curiosity, confidence, and global understanding, all in alignment with our mission to Open Doors to Opportunities. Tausend Dank!
