Fernway School partnered with Adapted Sports Ohio to give every student in grades K–5 a powerful lesson in inclusion through adaptive sports.

The day began with a schoolwide disability awareness assembly led by Team USA Para Track and Field athlete Casey Followay and Madyson Followay of Adapted Sports Ohio. As teachers competed in wheelchair basketball, the gym filled with cheers, laughter, and excitement.

In physical education classes, students then had the opportunity to experience games and activities while using wheelchairs themselves. Building on lessons about the 2026 Paralympic Games and the adaptive tools that help remove barriers, students gained a firsthand understanding of accessibility, perseverance, and inclusive athletics.

Thanks to generous donations, this was more than just a memorable day. The experience inspired empathy, broadened perspectives, and showed students how thoughtful adaptations create opportunities for everyone to participate and succeed.
