Woodbury Creating Change

Together, we create the change we wish to see.

WHAT IS WCC?  Woodbury Creating Change (WCC) is an all-school/all-community art unit that promotes empathy, social justice and teaches our students that together, we can use our art to create positive change. It involves students, staff, families, and our community.

In the past, our students have created ceramic bowls, cups, tapas plates, and planters. We’ve presented these items at a wonderful community event where we celebrate art and creativity and host food stations from local restaurants. We have offered our unique handmade pieces to raise money for student-chosen local, national, and international nonprofits. Restaurants have graciously donated their delicious goods and many chefs and owners have come to the event to help serve their donation themselves. Over 1,000 people have attended each event.

WCC IS WORKING TOWARD A GOAL. TOGETHER, WE WANT TO BUILD SOMETHING BIG!

Last fall, all Woodbury students created their own layouts for a proposed Woodbury Outside Eating Area & Learning Center to be built on the grounds near Woodbury. Local architects visited the students and talked with them about the profession of architecture. Students considered form and function, made renderings, and submitted designs. Then the pandemic hit and our project paused…

We are now moving forward with the project. The architects are looking through all 800 artworks and developing a final design. The design should be available in February and at that point, we should have details on the full budget for this exciting project. Then we will be working with our community to make this dream a reality!

Stay tuned to this space for the announcement about the final design and our next steps!

MEANWHILE, WHAT ARE WE DOING NOW?

While we’re waiting for the architects to provide the final design and budget, we’re going to focus on giving back. Let’s create positive change within our local community and help give back to our amazing local restaurants that have so graciously given to us these past ten years!  Let us also consider ways to give to local families and people in need.

THERE ARE THREE WAYS YOU CAN HELP RIGHT NOW:
  1. Click Here to Join our WCC Committee!  We will meet as a group and then divide into three sub-committees (staff, community, and student outreach) to get things accomplished.
  2. Support Our Local Restaurants! Here is a link of the restaurants that have donated to WCC in the past.  Consider supporting them via curbside pick-up, delivery, or gift cards.
  3. Consider a Donation to the Shaker Hunger Network! Donations will be collected and money will be used to help provide meals to families in need
 Thank you!
