Fall 2019

On Giving Tuesday, Unlock the Matching Gift!

Giving Tuesday was established in 2012 as an international movement to encourage charitable donations during the “season of giving” – beginning the Tuesday after Thanksgiving.

This year, Giving Tuesday is December 3, 2019 – and we ask you to consider making a donation in any amount to the Shaker Schools Foundation. A generous donor has agreed to match all funds raised between now and December 3, dollar for dollar, up to $10,000!

Your donations to the Shaker Schools Foundation make a substantial difference for students in every grade level at every building, providing the “extras” that regular operating funds don’t cover – including academic and cultural enrichment, innovation and technology, and student travel assistance.

This season, be the change you’d like to see and help us unlock the matching gift for our students! As always, we are grateful for your continued support of our mission.

Tickets on Sale for A Night for the Red & White: March 7, 2020

INNOVATE SHAKER! Join us for an evening of dining, dancing, student performances and a silent auction in support of the Shaker Schools Foundation’s Innovation Fund on March 7, 2020, 7pm, at the Hilton Cleveland Downtown. Tickets are now on sale; purchase by January 3 to receive recognition on the invitation, or by February 13 to receive recognition in the program.

The Shaker Schools Foundation launched the Innovation Fund in 2018 to support hands-on learning, cutting-edge technology and enhanced curriculum in STEAM (science, technology, engineering, arts and math) across all grades in the Shaker Heights City School District.

Through your generous donations, the Innovation Fund has supported the creation of:

  • A creative and colorful makerspace and an innovation lab for 5th and 6th-grade students, featuring circuitry, robotics and engineering, to spark a culture of innovation
  • Robotics and advanced manufacturing courses at Shaker Heights High School, offering alternative paths to post-secondary education and career success
  • Hands-on learning and fun for younger students, including LEGO roboticstinkering sets, and other design challenges to encourage inquiry and imagination

We are thrilled to introduce our volunteer leaders for this year’s 28th annual gala: Sarah Brandon Bowen, SHHS Class of 2007, Mity Fowler, mother of three SHHS students, Lauren Martin, Boulevard mother, and Marla Walker, mother of two SHHS graduates and two SHHS students.

We are also excited to have Michael Tate, SHHS Class of 1985, in the role of emcee for this year’s event.

This is just the beginning! Be a part of A Night for the Red & White and help us bring even more educational enrichment and innovation to our Shaker schools!

You Put Our Mission in Motion – Thank You!

In the past year, through the help of generous donations from individuals, corporations, and grants from other foundations, the Shaker Schools Foundation was able to provide extra resources for more than 160 projects, including robotics and engineering equipment, social and emotional learning curricula, musical instruments, student travel assistance, visiting artists and authors, and much more!

During this season of thanks and giving, we are truly grateful for your continued support of our mission. To continue to support Shaker students and schools, make your gift to the Annual Appeal today. Remember, any gifts received between now and December 3 will automatically be doubled, up to $10,000 as part of our Giving Tuesday Challenge!
