Inspiring Confidence: The Lomond Dance Squad Journey
Lomond Art Teacher Marissa Kowallek aligned her passion as a dance instructor and art teacher with Lomond paraprofessional Torwarna Powell, (Mrs. T), and created a Lomond Dance Squad. Mrs. Kowallek provided real-life dance team experience for Lomond students regardless of income. With funds from the Shaker Schools Foundation, third and fourth graders were able to gain confidence and show creativity in movement and teamwork.
The students were proud of their success and teamwork. They showcased their talents at a spring recital while wearing dance team t-shirts and equipped with LED glow drumsticks, which were also used for the Yoga Ball IB Unit in their music class. The Foundation is proud to support initiatives that foster the growth of our students, both inside and outside the classroom.
While teaching this session I have been honored to witness perseverance, student-to-student support, pride, and a sense of accomplishment across two grade levels of dancers.
