Keep Our Mission in Motion!

When you donate to the Shaker Schools Foundation’s Annual Appeal you are supporting:

  • Technology and equipment to enhance both online and remote learning
  • Innovation – makerspaces, robotics, graphic design tools, and machining
  • Teacher grants to support creative learning solutions
  • Social and emotional learning
  • Entrepreneurship and mentoring
  • Fine and performing arts programming
  • Equitable access to academics, enrichment, and travel opportunities
  • Visiting artists, authors, hands-on science, and cultural field trips

Gifts to our Mission in Motion appeal are unrestricted, which means they can be directed to the buildings, grades, or classrooms within the District with the greatest need at any given time. Whether you give a one-time gift or establish a monthly gift, your support of the Mission in Motion appeal will enhance student engagement, foster collaboration, and ensure opportunity for our students.

Educational Equity Fund

Since launching the Educational Equity Fund at A Night for the Red & White last March, the Shaker Schools Foundation has worked closely with the District to support initiatives that impact every student in the Shaker schools, at every grade level:

  • Student Group on Race Relations (SGORR) Community –  Spaces for parents and elementary students (Grades K – 6)  to work together to make their community more anti-racist, with opportunities to learn about racism and how it looks within their local community. Families will work with one another to create and execute an anti-racist actionable project.
  • Kids Cook at Home – Brandon Chrostowski of Edwins Leadership & Restaurant Institute led ten at-home cooking sessions with Lomond families to help them learn to prepare delicious healthy meals and develop some kitchen prep skills. The Foundation helped underwrite the cost of supplies so all interested families could participate.
  • Windows and Mirrors K-4  literature program – Twelve Shaker Heights Middle School students worked with KSU’s Cleveland Urban Design Collaborative, through their “Making Our Own Spaces” (MOOS) program, to design and build bookcases for Boulevard and Lomond that will house diversity, equity and inclusion books funded by the Shaker Schools Foundation’s Mirrors and Windows literacy grant.

Woodbury and Middle School

  • Minority Achievement Committee (MAC) Scholars Summer Enrichment – A 6-week enrichment program for rising 5th grade MAC Scholars and MAC Sister Scholars. The focus will be on math, science, language, and literature. Leadership and physical activity will also be incorporated.
  • Girls Who Code and Girls in STEM – The Foundation supports two Middle School clubs offering opportunities for girls to explore STEM and coding and to see themselves in those fields.
  • Woodbury’s 6th Grade Outdoor Education Camp –  A highlight of the Shaker School District that has been described as a right of passage in the “Shaker Experience.” The Foundation’s Aisha Fraser Fund provides financial assistance for students to attend the camp.
  • Opportunity Scholarships – SSF has launched two funds to further equitable access to educational activities outside of the offerings of the school district. Beyond the Desk Enrichment Scholarships support students seeking to participate in classes, camps, visual or performing arts groups, and more. Level the Playing Field Youth Sports Scholarships remove barriers to promote greater diversity and inclusion in youth sports for Shaker students.

High School

  • Football leadership training – SSF supported an eight-week virtual leadership training program for high school football players and coaches to build connections, confidence, and life skills.
  • Collaborate with the High School to identify internships, shadowing, and partnership opportunities to give our students real-world experiences.

Community and Alumni  Partnerships

  • The Shaker Schools Foundation created the Greater Cleveland Educational Equity Roundtable in partnership with the District’s DEI Division. DEI educational professionals, practitioners, and community stakeholders convene quarterly to discuss issues connected to educational equity in our community.
  • Minority Achievement Committee (MAC) Scholars Alumni Conference – In celebration of the 30th anniversary of the MAC Scholars program, alumni Scholars are gathering with current Scholars to share their personal stories and experiences and participate in panel discussions on current topics.
  • Student Group on Race Relations (SGORR) Alumni mentoring program – Pairs current students with SGORR alumni to learn from their experiences and to expand their leadership skills.

The Shaker Schools Foundation invites philanthropic support from individuals, corporations, and foundations to support these important programs and initiatives.
